Melody has been developing and producing high-profile, award-winning television content for 14 years – both in the UK and internationally – for broadcasters such as the BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV, Discovery TLC, National Geographic and Apple TV+.
She has a track record of working on acclaimed, iconic TV firsts including The Real Marigold Hotel (BBC One) and The Secret Life of 4 Year Olds (Channel 4). She has also made four Stacey Dooley films and is known for her work with sensitive access and contributor care.
Melody is now working in the wonderful world of drama, her first drama credit being the BAFTA-winning and Emmy-nominated Bad Sisters for Merman/Apple TV+. She also worked on a movie musical short, and would love to take on more projects in that genre.
Prior to getting into television, Melody trained in Musical Theatre at The BRIT School and subsequently produced, directed and choreographed several fringe musicals both at university and beyond. She also assistant stage-managed BBC Learning’s Over the Rainbow live theatre tour which took place off the back of Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s BBC One TV series of the same name, documenting his search for the next performer to play Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz.
Proud of and very much shaped by her Spanish/Scottish heritage and working-class roots, Melody is a vocal and active champion of diversity within the industry. She is driven by a deep desire for connection with the world around her, and an acute awareness of the fact that most people have a TV in their home, which is both a privilege and a responsibility.
She wants to tell stories that make an impact, give viewers the opportunity to connect with new perspectives, in some way remind us all that we’re more similar than different, and that we all play a part in the wider world. But it doesn’t mean that everything has to be serious – quite the opposite, in fact!
Her ultimate goal is to work across a diverse slate of authentic, compelling and entertaining content – ideally involving music and comedy – whilst helping to drive important change and progress within industry culture and practice.
If you are in a role that involves hiring/management, Melody would love you to visit Deaf & Disabled People in TV for advice and guidance on how to create and maintain an inclusive, accessible and diverse workplace.
Melody was named as one of Edinburgh TV Festival’s Ones to Watch 2020-21.
